300 Series LandCruiser – Frequently Unanswered Questions

Landcruiser 300 back

Dear Everyone, Please Stop Talking About the 300 Series LandCruiser. Seriously.

You may not know this, but the admins of this site are passionate off roaders. We’re all about exploring Queensland, via the road (beach, track, red, dusty thing they refer to as a road but it’s not even close) less travelled. And…as such we’re friendly with a bunch of Queensland 4WD enthusiasts. Turns out, you lot are extremely keen to get your hot little hands on a 300 Series LandCruiser. Like, every camp site. Every conversation. So… in response to yet another debate with randoms on the road, I promised to investigate this 300 Series LandCruiser business.

First, we asked a Toyota Dealer about it.

First, I called a Sunshine Coast Toyota Dealer and asked about ordering one. He directed me to their “300 Series LandCruiser news”. Then we went to the Official Australian Toyota site which was decidedly less helpful.

So I did what everyone else has been doing. I went to the internet for help (hold me). On every forum, in every group, there was a never-ending stream of theories posing as facts. So, here’s what the internet told me compared to the official word on the new LandCruiser 300 Series.

When is the 300 Series LandCruiser release date?

There is currently no release date for the 300 series. Like, it literally doesn’t exist. The internet of course has hundreds of options for you to choose from. Exclusive “leaked” dates include last November (hmmmm), about twelve different dates in 2021 and an OFFICIAL claim of 2022… officially announced by… Some Guy on the Internet!

When will the LandCruiser 300 be available in Queensland?

Literally, no confirmation AT ALL – the rumours of its imminent arrival are all just rumours.

Will the LandCruiser 300 Series launch on 1 August 2021?

August 1, 2021 is Toyota LandCruiser’s 70th birthday. Which is nice. We should TOTALLY have cake or something. Maybe some balloons. Otherwise, there’s nothing officially planned to happen on that day.

But someone on the internet said that the new LandCruiser will be available in August 2021!

To quote Abe Lincoln…

300 Series LandCruiser

But, is there a 300 series LandCruiser coming?

1998 – 2007 there was the Toyota LandCruiser 100 Series
2007 was the start of the Toyota LandCruiser 200 Series
So, logically speaking, yes, the LandCruiser 300 Series is coming….at some point. There is a new model of the LandCruiser being announced later in 2021 and it’s being touted as something very exciting.

Frequently Asked Questions about the new 300 model specs

What is the difference between the 200 and 300 series?

The 200 series is available to buy albeit in very limited supply. The 300 series isn’t yet.

Can you at least hint at some of the new features?

It yells at the kids for you when they’re late for school. It hands you tools when you DIY. When parked on a beach, it will open your can of beer for you. Let’s face it, nobody knows anything about a new LandCruiser 300 series – we’ve all read speculation on the internet and still don’t know. The LandCruiser name is synonymous with power, roominess, comfort, reliability, longevity and safety. I would hazard a guess that any future models will be designed to deliver on those promises.

What engines will be used in the new LandCruiser?

300 Series Landcruiser V8

The 200 Series Toyota Landcruiser sports the 4.5-litre twin-turbo diesel V8 engine. This bad boy produces 200kW and 650Nm. Basically, it’s a MACHINE. A grunty, all powerful machine.
And there’s a fair bit of speculation that any future LandCruiser models would need to be designed for future emissions compliance. So… while Toyota is a world leader in innovative engine design, fans of the 200 series grunt would be treated to the awesome power of LandCruiser in a more emissions friendly way. The rumours extend to include a revolutionary new 3.5 litre twin turbo diesel V6 with kickass power and torque stats.
Except… the potential loss of a V8 option is causing big boy tears. Lots of big boy tears. The rumours have resulted in a bunch of Queensland off roaders buying up 200 series in “last chance” mode.

Who knows. Perhaps the 300 Series, when it eventually lands, will sport a jet engine? Or be powered by six tiny reindeer? Again, speculation and rumour.

It’s a Toyota right? So there’s got to be a 300 Series LandCruiser Hybrid on the Horizon!

Most people know Toyota for one of two things… being totally unbreakable (and who DIDN’T LOVE THAT TOP GEAR EPISODE PROVING IT) or its “at the vanguard” approach to Hybrids. Toyota has already promised to electrify all our models by 2025. So the question here is…will there be a Hybrid LandCruiser 300 Series by 2025? Still… no idea!

Can the 300 Series Toyota LandCruiser still tow a caravan?

As a well-known class leading powerful machine, I’m going to go ahead and guess that Toyota, if and when it launches this new beast, isn’t going to remake it as a little run-around hatch. A LandCruiser will always be capable of going where so many vehicles cannot…including going there hitched to a van. So calm down nanna, you’ll be fine.

Will in come in black because I only drive black cars?

Um. Yeah, sure. Absolutely. Why not. There’s always one right?

How much will the new LandCruiser cost?

Eleventy-Billion dollars, make out all cheques to me. LandCruisers have never been the “budget option”. I wouldn’t bank on this one being cheap.

Can you pre-order one?

No. As far as Toyota dealers are concerned, you can’t even really talk about one. So, no you can’t order one. A few of the dealership sites I visited had a “sign up to get news” form. I would assume that’s the first step.

Please let us never speak of this again!

Remember when American election “Fake News” was the only thing anyone talked about? Well, frankly, the mythical 300 Series LandCruiser is starting to feel like that. Yes, it’s fun to gossip about. Yes, there are weird-ass theories everywhere. Yes, I promised to write this blog for the randoms at the camp ground (taken a few weeks, but I did it). So, here’s the definitive guide. Let’s talk about something else next weekend huh?
