Moving to Australia from Bangladesh? Forget Sydney – Move to Queensland!
Why Choose Australia?
Australia is a highly desirable country to move to, no matter where in the world you hail from. Australia has a very stable economy with an enviable lifestyle and fantastic weather. It has a globally renowned education system, an excellent healthcare system, and is known for its safety and security.
The quality of life Australia provides its residents means that it regularly scores amongst the highest when it comes to lists of the most desirable countries to live in. But where in Australia should you choose?
Where In Australia Should I Move To?
Australia has six states and two territories. All of these have a coastline, except the Australian Capital Territory (home of the federal capital, Canberra). So, if you’re looking for the iconic beach lifestyle, you’ll be spoilt for choice.
Most migrants tend to gravitate towards the biggest cities, Sydney or Melbourne, as they’re the most well-known internationally. They’re also the most expensive and the most competitive when it comes to housing, job opportunities, and finding a community. Queensland offers the best of both worlds. Brisbane is the third biggest capital city, and the industries on offer there are very competitive with the rest of the country. There are several regional cities like Rockhampton, Cairns, Townsville and the Gold Coast, which also provide excellent opportunities in the mining and natural resources sector, and the medical sector, among others. There is a Bangladesh Association in Brisbane, which will help make the transition to a new country easier. Plus, the weather year-round is perfect! How To Move To Australia
There are four main ways to migrate permanently to Australia, which are known as streams.
The Skill Stream
This stream is designed to improve the Australian economy and to fill any skill shortages that may exist in the Australian labour market. This will depend on your employment experience and your educational qualifications.
The Family Stream
This is made up of partner category visas, which enable Australian citizens and permanent Australian residents to reunite with overseas family members.
The Special Eligibility Stream
This involves visas for those in special circumstances who do not qualify for the other streams. This can include things like permanent residents who are returning to the country after a period overseas.
The Child Stream
This stream provides migration avenues for the children of Australian citizens and permanent residents and is driven by demand.
The two most popular permanent skilled visas to Australia for Bangladeshis are: · Skilled Independent Visa (subclass 189), which is for skilled workers who do not have an employer, family member or Australian state or territory government sponsoring their application · Skilled Nominated Visa (subclass 190), which is for skilled workers with a nomination from an Australian state or territory government.
Both visas allow applicants to move to Australia with their families.

Australian Visa Points System
The Visa Points system awards points to prospective migrants for various factors deemed important to the Australian economy. The minimum number of points needed to be eligible for a visa to Australia is 65. These are the factors that are considered.
Age Requirements
Visa applicants are given a score based on their age.
· 18- to 24-year-olds = 25 points
· 25- to 32-year-olds = 30 points
· 33- to 39-year-olds = 25 points
· 40- to 44-year-olds = 15 points
· 45+ = 0 points
English Proficiency
For the Independent Skilled Migrant visas 189 and 190, applicants from Bangladesh will need to demonstrate a competent level of English.
Employment Experience
Your skilled employment history will also be scored using a points system. To gain points, your skilled work experience must be related to one of the eligible roles on the Skilled Occupation List.
The length of time an applicant has worked in the role will determine how many points they are awarded. The longer you’ve worked in a skilled role, the higher the points. Your score will be higher if you have had previous skilled employment in Australia.
Educational Qualifications
To be eligible for these visas, applicants need to have a skills assessment conducted by relevant assessing authorities. Points will be awarded according to the qualifications that applicants have obtained. Only qualifications recognised by the Australian government will receive the points.
If you have more than one qualification, only the highest one will be considered.
· Doctorate = 20 points
· Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree = 10 points
· Diploma = 5 points
Ensure Your Skills Are Recognised in Australia
Unsure if your work skills or qualifications are recognised in Australia? A Recognition of Prior Learning Assessment can determine your competency acquired through any formal qualification and work experience. By completing an RPL assessment, you can turn your work skills, experience and knowledge into real Australian qualifications under the Australian Qualifications Framework. Get more information.
Please note: It’s important to choose a fully accredited Australian Registered Training Organisation that is legally authorised to conduct your assessment, as well as provide you with an RPL qualification that is recognised in Australia.
